Welcome to Ancient Creed Theology!
Theology is a fascinating subject that has been studied for many centuries and by many different types of people. "What is theology?" you might ask. Theology is an important part of many religions, including Christianity. The word theology literally means the study of God. There are many branches of theology and many niche subjects to be covered. However, there are many very practical aspects to be discussed within the larger area of study of theology.
About the Blog
Through this article, our goal is to introduce a new blog called “Ancient Creed Theology”. This blog is written from a Wesleyan-Pentecostal perspective but is open to dialogue in regards to issues that are inter-denominational. The purpose of this blog is to provide readers with a deeper understanding of theology and how it relates to their lives. In this blog, we will delve into both the practical and the mysterious aspects of theology. We will cover both modern culture and the ancient faith of our fathers.
The blog will cover a wide range of topics related to theology. Some of the topics that will be covered include:
- Theology proper (the theology of God's nature)
- Christian ethics
- The nature of humanity
- Soteriology (Salvation theology)
- Pneumatology (The Holy Spirit)
- Biblical and Systematic theology
- Church history
The blog will most certainly seek to explore how these topics relate to our lives today. It will provide readers with practical insights into how they can apply these theological concepts to their daily lives.
One of the most unique aspects of this blog is that it is written from a Wesleyan-Pentecostal perspective. This means that it is both grounded in the Wesleyan-Arminian tradition and emphasizes the role of the Holy Spirit in the day-to-day Christian life. However, the blog is also open to dialogue in regards to issues that are inter-denominational. This means that readers from different Christian traditions are welcome to engage with the content and share their perspectives.
Upholding the Christian faith
Here at Ancient Creed Theology, we hold to the orthodox Christian faith as set before us in the Bible and the catholic (i.e.. universal) creeds of the early Church. While we appreciate the diversity of opinion on matters of secondary importance, we hold to the foundations of essential Christianity.
At Ancient Creed Theology, we hold to the Apostles' Creed, as we believe it to be a beautiful and powerful, yet concise creedal statement that outlines the basic essentials of the Christian faith. We can wholeheartedly say:
I believe in God,
the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried;
he descended into hell (death);
on the third day he rose again from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty;
from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic (universal) Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.
Amen.
Furthermore, we are deeply rooted in the Protestant tradition through the English reformation. This means that we believe that salvation is of God alone, through faith and by His grace. We believe in the inspiration and infallibility of the written Word of God, the Bible. We believe that the chief end of man is to glorify God. We believe that the mission of the church is to spread the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the ends of the earth. We believe in the inherent sinfulness of man. We believe that those who are saved must produce fruit by the Holy Spirit and good works must accompany them at all times.
About the Author
The main author at Ancient Creed Theology is a lay-theologian by the name of Mark.
Mark grew up within the Romanian Pentecostal tradition, more specifically within the Wesleyan-Pentecostal denomination by the name of Church of God (Cleveland, TN). His first light contact with theology was when he picked up a book by renowned author and preacher Watchman Nee at the age of 12. He immediately fell in love with the subject matter of God and, ever since, he has been passionately studying theology.
Mark is a very enthusiastic student of Church history. He loves studying and reading the great writers, poets, theologians, pastors, and martyrs of the Christian faith throughout history. He is currently studying Koine Greek as a supplemental tool in his study of theology and biblical exegesis. He is a fan of podcasts and enjoys reading classic works of fiction in his spare time.
Currently, Mark is studying Science at the undergraduate level.
Conclusion
At Ancient Creed Theology, we desire to encourage inter-denominational dialogue between Christians. Our hope is that, in all that we do, Christ may be glorified in us and through us. It is no easy task to study theology. However, we hope to put out quality theology articles with information based on sound scholarship and biblical evidence. In every aspect of our study, the guidance of the Holy Spirit is an essential piece. Throughout the ages, the Church has asked for the guidance of the Holy Spirit every step of the way. We continue this beautiful tradition and ask the Lord Jesus Christ to guide us and give us help through the Holy Spirit in this endeavor we have decided to take on. Therefore, to all of our Christian brothers and sisters, we kindly ask you to pray for the author of this blog and for all involved people.
Welcome to Ancient Creed Theology, everyone! Today we begin a journey together, a journey of studying the inspired Word of God and the ancient faith of our fathers. Along the way, we will hopefully develop a deeper understanding of theology and how it relates to our lives. But, most importantly, may this blog bring fruit for the kingdom of God in the salvation of lost souls through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Soli deo gloria!
